SpeedIink 2.5/System 7.0 Installation for all EMAC SpeedLinks:
1. First, make sure that System 7.0 has been installed on the Mac and an
EMAC SpeedLink has been physically installed. The Mac should be
able to boot from the hard disk and the SpeedLink should be
terminated or connected to a concentrator. Also, make sure that
Resedit is on the hard disk.
2. Copy "Network" from the System 7.0 Tidbits disk, to the Control
Panels folder in the System Folder on the hard disk.
3. Copy "EtherTalk 2" from the System 7.0 Installer #3 disk, to the
Extentions Folder in the System Folder on the hard disk.
4. Insert the EMAC SpeedLink 2.5 disk and copy its "EtherTalk"
(single arrows) file to the Extentions Folder on the hard disk.
5. Launch Resedit and open the System Folder on the EMAC SpeedLink
disk. Then open the SpeedLink Stuff Folder and locate the three
SpeedLink script files named "SE", "SE30" and "Nubus". Open the
file script that corresponds to the EMAC SpeedLink which is
installed. (If you're using a Rev. C nubus card, make sure you're
using the 2.5 rev C SpeedLink disk. The rev C SpeedLink script file
will be displayed as "oldnubus").
6. Next you'll see "DRVR" listed. Open this file and you'll see
something like "Driver .ENET ID=127". Click this line once so it
becomes highlighted, then go to the Edit menu bar and choose
COPY.
7. Close all of the EMAC SpeedLink windows and now use Resedit to
find the System Folder on the hard disk. Within the System Folder
you'll see the System file. Open this file, then scroll down its window
untill you see DRVR. Open DRVR and you'll notice several drivers
listed. Go to the Edit menu bar and choose PASTE. The SpeedLink
driver should now appear in the driver list. Close all of the windows,
(you'll be prompted to save your changes. Click "Save") and choose
QUIT from the File menu bar.
8. Open the Control Panels Folder from the System Folder on the hard
disk and open "Network". Select EtherTalk or EtherTalk 2. Close
the window and cold boot the Mac. To test the SpeedLink, run the
SpeedLink diagostics from the hard disk. Thats all there is to it.
